SDCA is committed to respecting your privacy and ensuring the personal information
you have entrusted us with is held securely. We process information with the current
Data Protection Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which
is coming into force this May 2018.

We collect personal information in the following ways;
Directly from you when you;
- Access any of SDCA services i.e. to become a volunteer, access drop in
surgeries, join a BSL course - Contact us with an enquiry
- Request to for resources to share about SDCA services
- Apply for a job to join our great team
- Make a donation
From other sources;
- When you are referred to access our services through our partnering
agencies - We may use the Royal Mail postcode finder to check the accuracy of the
address we hold.

Sensitive personal data
The Data Protection Act recognises some information as ‘sensitive personal data’.
This includes, but is not limited to, information which reveals race or ethnic origin and
health concerns or disability, for example, type of deafness and language.
SDCA will always treat any sensitive personal data we process with greater care and
process the information in accordance with the new GDPR regulations.

For the administration of all the services we offer and provide.

We like to share news about SDCA and how the lives of Deaf people are being
impacted in a positive way. This includes sending you information about our new
services, news, events, fundraising activities and information on volunteering.

From time to time we may send you information about our work unless you have told
us you would prefer not to receive this information by post.
SDCA is committed to respecting your choice to receive marketing information. You

WHO WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION WITH
SDCA works in partnership with Sandwell Council and will often refer to their
services i.e. deaf equipment, welfare rights etc. We will only share personal
information that you have consented to.

SDCA may be under duty to disclose your personal information where required in
order to comply with any legal obligation for example, the police.
HOW LONG WE KEEP YOUR DATA
SDCA will only keep your personal information for as long as it is required. Where
the information is no longer required, your personal information will be disposed of in
a professional secure manner. If you have indicated that you do not wish to receive
any further contact from us in the future, we will keep the minimum information
necessary to ensure we avoid contacting you any further.

The new GDPR regulations gives you the right;
- To request in writing and securely obtain copies of the personal information
SDCA holds about you - To correct or update your personal information processed by SDCA
- To request SDCA to stop using your personal information for marketing
purposes or for any other purpose where there is no legal requirement for
continued processing.
